Wireless mice and keyboards are almost ubiquitous in the workplace and home. These devices make our life easier and a practical for almost any situation. They are ‘connected’ to a host computer using a radio transceiver, commonly a small USB dongle. Little is it known, that these dongles can often be exploited to gain control of a computer. They can be used to send keystrokes and commands to a computer from up to 100 meters away.
By making use of the appropriate Hw and Sw, in this case a “Crazy Radio PA” from Seed Studio and jackit (an open source project in Python) it possible to demonstrate this vulnerability live. This demo normally has a memorable or WOW effect that helps create security awareness. It reminds users the importance of the security basics, in this case patching even the small things like the mouse firmware.
This kit contains the following items:
- Crazy Radio PA – Long range 2.4 Ghz USB radio with antenna.
- Instructions on how to setup the demo
- A small ducky-script that opens a notepad in windows and writes some text.
This kit is highly recommend for Security demos and awareness Trainings, and should only be used for these purposes.
